Kitchen of Ronald Reagan Boyhood Home in Dixon, IL with Detroit Jewel gas stove and oven

Ronald Reagan boyhood kitchen, Dixon

Dixon, Illinois — The kitchen of the Ronald Reagan Boyhood Home at 816 S. Hennepin Ave., with kitchen cabinets, Detroit Jewel (“They bake better”) gas stove and oven, tea kettle and coffee pot.

The Reagan family moved here in 1920, when Ronald Reagan was 9 years old, and moved to anther Dixon home in 1923.

Following decades of neglect, the house was virtually gutted after Reagan became president in 1981, and restored to its 1920 appearance with furnishings of that period.

President Reagan revisited his boyhood home on February 6, 1984, to celebrate his 73rd birthday — or, as he called it, “the 34th anniversary of my 39th birthday.” He said it was great to be back home, “And, you know, if our old house on Hennepin Avenue looked as good in 1924 as it does now, I might never have left.”
