Ono Hawaiian Foods: Toyo Shimabukuro with Amy Czerniec at his restaurant in Honolulu, Hawaii

Honolulu restaurant: Ono Hawaiian Foods, Toyo Shimabukuro

Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii — Toyo Shimabukuro with Amy in his Ono Hawaiian Foods restaurant at 726 Kapahulu Ave. The son of Ono Hawaiian Foods founder Sueko Miyagi Oh Young, Mr. Shimabukuro was a charming and informative host. He selected our dinner for us — including poi, kalua pig, and lomi lomi salmon — and then joined us to explain the subtle differences between fresh poi, day-old poi, and sour poi.

Ono Hawaiian Foods was featured in the March 3, 2008 “Hawaii” episode of Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations.
