Mount Airy, North Carolina — Floyd’s City Barber Shop at 129 N. Main St., owned by barber Russell Hiatt, the real-life inspiration for Floyd Lawson (“Floyd the Barber”) on TV’s The Andy Griffith Show.

Andy Griffith was born and raised in Mount Airy, which provided at least some of the basis for the fictional community of Mayberry.
